Mt. Hebron Athletes Gear Up for Winter Tryouts

By: Jocelyn Hamon

Starting Nov. 15, Mt. Hebron winter tryouts began, and winter sports coaches have started after-school workouts and training sessions to gear up their players for the new season.

Hosted by the Mt. Hebron winter sports coaches after school, the training sessions improve athletic skills and prove to be a beneficial experience for future team players.

“The training sessions have impacted me in a good way, they have improved my skills and gotten me a lot better, a lot of hard work and good drills,” said Mt. Hebron sophomore Nick Etienne.

Along with the start of tryouts sparks the excitement that comes with a new season of sports. Athletes are ready for a fresh season to start, getting ready to win and for a season of memories and experiences.

“I am feeling excited because it is a mark of the start of the season and of winter sports,” said Etienne. “You get to meet your teammates and the new guys coming in and that is a great experience,” he continued, sharing the same emotions as Mt. Hebron sophomore Trevor Smith.

“I am feeling very excited because it is a great opportunity to showcase my skills, and I enjoy the sport of basketball,” said Smith.

Winter tryouts prove to be beneficial for athletes as they provide an opportunity to build skills and confidence, making them better athletes as they train. Tryouts are a chance for students to reflect on skills and get to know new people, who may become teammates and reunite with former ones.

“I am so excited for tryouts. I can’t wait to reunite with my teammates and start preparing for upcoming competitions,” said Mt. Hebron sophomore Katie Essey. “I had so much fun last season and I am really looking forward to this year’s season,” she continued, sharing her excitement for her returning upcoming winter cheer season.

Athletes enjoy their sports for many different reasons. Some enjoy their sport because it keeps them in shape, some because they love the experience, and some because they enjoy the bonds that are created through their sport with new people and friends.

“I enjoy cheer because it is super fun and I love supporting other sports teams at Hebron to help bring them success. It is also a super fun and high energy community that is so much fun to be a part of,” said Essey.

As Mt. Hebron fall sports are officially over, the winter season has now begun. For Mt. Hebron athletes, this week of tryouts, is just the beginning, and a way for them to express their skills and abilities and a way for them to meet new people.
