Mt. Hebron Math teacher Mr. Greg Murach has been nominated for award of 2019 Teacher of the Year. The recipients of the award are chosen through an exhibition of a variety of criteria, including being able to help students learn, achieve academic success, and find and execute their talents.
Nominated teachers need to take time to understand the individual needs of learners, demonstrate thorough knowledge of their subject, and display exceptional leadership as well as outstanding collaboration skills. The Parent/Teacher/Student Association, or PTSA, has come together and decided that Mr. Murach has displayed these contributions to students, teachers and the school as a whole.
Mr. Murach is humbled by the nomination, saying simply that he is “very excited to see what is to come next.”
Mr. Murach has been teaching a variety of Math courses for the past 14 years. He has taught Algebra, Geometry, Precalculus, Trigonometry, Math Analysis Honors and Business Applied Calculus GT. He co-founded and has co-sponsored the Math National Honor Society for the past five years. Also, for the past two years, he has been a part of a freshman advisory program. Mr. Murach has also contributed time and effort into parades, proms, and homecomings as a class sponsor since he began teaching.
Junior Cecelia Broccolino said, “Mr. Murach is great at engaging in class in what they are learning. He always offers extra help to make sure everyone understands the topic thoroughly. He is also very thoughtful of his work, and it is very easy to tell that he cares about his students and his work.”
Over the summer, Mr. Murach worked at SOAR, the Social Opportunities and Relationships program, which encompasses teaching students with autism. He also encourages students at Mt. Hebron to participate and get involved in things such as the Canned Food Drive and other beneficial programs in the school.
The Teacher of the Year nomination gives students the opportunity to write a letter voicing their opinions and gratitude for the teacher to be attached to the nomination application.
Winning this prestigious award would solidify the student body’s voiced opinion that Mr. Murach is a great educator and deserves to be recognized for his efforts.
