Varsity Sports Recap: Week of 11/1

Varsity Cheerleading:

On Saturday, Varsity Cheerleading finished their season placing 13th at Regionals.

Boys’ Cross Country:

At Centennial, Boys’ Cross Country finished 3rd in MPSSA 3A East Regionals.  Senior Greg Bisant finished 5th with a time of 16.46 and will lead the Vikings’ States team, which consists of Bisant, senior Abraham Samuel, juniors Jake Edmondson, Jimmy Hayden, Timmy Packard and Andrew Unkenholz and sophomore Sahil Sardesai, at States on Nov. 14.

Girls’ Cross Country:

On Thursday, Girls’ Cross Country finished 3rd in MPSSA 3A East Regionals hosted at Centennial. Sophomore Lexie Banham finished first in the region, with an impressive time of 19.37 for the 3.1 mile race. The Vikings qualified to compete in States on Nov. 14 at Hereford. The States team consists of senior Eleanor Zhang, juniors Kelly Kim, Grace Lechmann and Lauren Siedlecki, and sophomores Lexie Banham, Emmy Beyer and Ellie Gustafson. Girls’ Cross Country always qualifies for States.

Field Hockey (10-2, 12-3):

On Monday, Field Hockey defeated Atholton 3-1 in their second home playoff game. On Wednesday, Field Hockey lost to Cheseapeake 2-1 at the Regional Championship. Senior Katie Anderson scored the goal, while senior Rachel Bowman had 11 saves.

Football (1-9):

On Friday, the Vikings lost to River Hill 44-0 in their last home game of the season. Football finished the season with a record of 1-9.

Golf:

Golf competed in the States tournament on Oct. 26 and 27 and Nov. 2 at University of Maryland College Park. Senior Josephine Jung finished 4th with a total of 153 points.

Boys’ Soccer (10-1, 12-2):

The Vikings defeated Long Reach 2-0 on Tuesday with goals by senior Pat Palin and junior Michael Yacynych in their first playoff game of the season.

On Thursday, Boys’ Soccer lost a very close game to Centennial in penalty kicks. Senior Atticus Cooke scored with 4 seconds left in regulation to tie the game 2-2. Both overtimes remained scoreless, resulting in penalty kicks.

Volleyball (7-4, 7-5):

On Thursday, Volleyball defeated Wilde Lake in their first playoff game in three sets. The Vikings will play at Centennial on Nov. 9.
