On Monday, March 13, President Biden approved the Willow Project. Created by ConocoPhillips, the Willow Project is an oil-drilling exploration. According to the project’s website, the project is “important for Alaska’s economy and for America’s energy security.” The first SAT of 2023 was taken by many Mt. Hebron students on Saturday March 11, 2023, all with a like goal: to do the best they possibly can. While some colleges are now SAT optional or blind for the future, some have reverted back to required results. This being said, students are determined to take it and get a good score to increase their chances of attending elite colleges. For the junior class, March signals the beginning of the college admissions process, one they’ll be in for a while — and with the SAT at the helm, stress and anxiety among students is high. Kansas St. point guard Markquis Nowell had an absolute day last Thursday, leading the team to a 98-93 overtime victory over Michigan State, propelling them to the Elite Eight. March coincides as Women’s History Month, celebrating women all around the world, from our past, present, and future — inspiring new generations to come. International Women’s Day takes place on March 8th, recognizing achievements and challenges women face, as well as bringing attention to gender equality and women’s rights. Turbulence is skyrocketing in a way that is unleashing fear for future flights. Recent incidents of extreme turbulence have flooded the media and travelers are becoming apprehensive. Social media users have claimed this phenomenon is rooted in climate change. The fan-favorite love triangle of Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin are back, sparking an online feud as photos resurface showing Baldwin and friends appearing to bully Selena Gomez. From green screens, to artificial intelligence, to face filters — changing one’s appearance online has quickly become popular since early Apple photo booth days — and it looks like it’s a trend that’s here to stay. The announcement of later start times for Howard County public schools came with problems relating to the already problematic bus shortage. This led Howard County to increase the maximum distance students live from their school to be provided with a bus, a change that will impact thousands of students in the upcoming school year. After five years of anticipation, Howard County’s newest high school is on track to finish construction in Aug. 2023, now under a new name. Formerly known as High School 13, Guilford Park High School (GPHS) was announced as the official name at the Feb. 9th Board of Education meeting. Opening in the upcoming school year, new exciting updates and information have been released about the school.
